Three beautiful rainforest treks in Tropical North Queensland

If you visit Tropical North Queensland, be sure to explore the rainforests!Three beautiful rainforest treks in Tropical North Queensland

You don't have to go all the way to the Amazon to go on a rainforest trek - simply plan a Queensland family holiday!

Tropical North Queensland (TNQ) is home to some of the world's most beautiful rainforests. Whether you are after an easy stroll through the bush or want to embark on a tough all-day hike, the region will have something for you.

Choose from one of these three rainforest treks next time you are on holiday in TNQ:

Kuranda Village Walks

One of the most popular ways to access a rainforest in TNQ is to go to the small village of Kuranda.

Located in the heart of the Kuranda State Forest, this little town is right on the doorstep of some of the most beautiful flora and fauna in Australia.

There are plenty of self-guided walks that you can do through the surrounding rainforest, srambuch as the Rainforest Canopy Walk and the Jum Rum Creek Walk.

Each of these can be easily accessed from Kuranda and can be finished in as little as 40 minutes, so they are perfect for holiday-makers who are on a tight schedule.

You can also make a day of it by stopping in the Kuranda town for a spot of shopping or some food!

For more information on Kuranda and nearby rainforest treks, visit www.kuranda.org

Kuranda is easy to access - you can drive, take public transport or even come via the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, a relaxing cable-car ride over the top of the rainforest canopy.

The Wooroonooran Rainforest Safari is a fascinating walk that takes you past some exciting man-made attractions as well as through beautiful nature.

Daintree Rainforest Tours

Did you know that the Daintree Rainforest is thought to be the oldest surviving rainforest in the world?

If this doesn't justify a weekend getaway to TNQ, then we don't know what does!

According to the Daintree Rainforest website, the networks of flora and fauna here have been establishing themselves for more than 160 million years.

It's for this reason that it is best to take a guided tour, so you don't disturb the precious environment.

A company called Cooper Creek Wilderness offers a range of tours through the forest, from a short two-hour trek to one that goes for ten hours, allowing you to see the rainforest by day and by night.

This is just one of many tour operators who organise treks through the area. For more information on other walks available, visit the Daintree Tourism website.

There is also plenty to do in the small village of Daintree, which is located north of Mossman and Cairns. Be sure to spend some time exploring the town and tasting some of the amazing fresh produce the cafes and restaurants have on offer.

Wooroonooran Rainforest Safaris

Just a short drive from Cairns, the Wooroonooran National Park makes a great family day out.

The Wooroonooran Rainforest Safari is a fascinating walk that takes you past some exciting man-made attractions as well as through beautiful nature.

You'll go past natural features such as the Josephine Falls and Queensland's tallest mountain, Mt. Bartle Frere, as well as stop for a quick visit at the Johnstone River Crocodile Farm where you can hold a crocodile or python!

The Safari will finish at the Mamu Canopy Boardwalk, a wonderful man-made structure that will take you high into the tree tops. There is also an observation tower, the perfect place for a photo.

If this sounds like you, then you might want to look into booking one of the Mantra hotels in Cairns or Port Douglas.

Mantra Trilogy is located right on the Cairns Esplanade, so incredibly central to all of the activities that Cairns has on offer.

Meanwhile Mantra in the Village is right in the heart of Port Douglas, so you'll find all of the local cafes, restaurants and shops are just a few minutes' walk away.

It makes sense to stay somewhere central and then venture out to the surrounding rainforests by day, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds!
