Tap your feet at Melbourne Music Week

Melbourne music week celebrates its fifth birthday

Music lovers should book in a trip to Melbourne this November for a taste of Melbourne Music Week, which celebrates its fifth birthday this year. The event sees the city come alive with a series of performances that are imaginative, energetic, eclectic and carefully curated.

It's one of the best music events in Melbourne thanks its huge scope, featuring more than 230 artists across over 100 shows. It's not just limited to one venue either - in fact, almost 60 unique locations get a share of the action, with 75 event partners coming together to put this massive lineup together. The huge festival takes place from November 14-23.

The unique event isn't limited to music, highlighting spectacular art, film and other creative endeavours alongside its stellar musical lineup. Three quarters of artists involved are from the Victorian region, highlighting the plethora of local talent the area has right at its fingertips.

The year's Melbourne Music Week features German electronic music darlings Tangerine Dream performing live at the Melbourne Town Hall. Architecture in Helsinki also feature, supported by Rainbow Connection DJs and Total Giovanni to light up the Opening Night stage. The band's fifth album NOW 4EVA will be the highlight of this set. Cut Copy will perform a DJ set alongside Waving at Trains to present Oceans Apart, which is a compilation record to showcase Melbourne dance artists.

For something a bit different, head to the Australian Centre for the Moving Image on Friday 21 November to see beloved rock band The Church play a one-off performance to Jean Cocteau's film The Blood of a Poet.

When it's all over for the day, head back to your room at Mantra on Little Bourke to rest your head and prepare for the next day of festivities. Settle in at the licensed bar for a nightcap or retreat to your suite for some air-conditioned rest and relaxation.
