Three day trips from the Gold Coast
They say when in Rome, do as the Romans do - so when in the Gold Coast, why not do what the Gold Coasters do?
If you're staying in the Gold Coast then there are plenty of excellent day trips you can take in the surrounding areas to get out of the central city, just as the locals do.
South Stradbroke Island (South Straddie)
Not even an hour up the coast is the tiny 2.5km wide South Stradbroke Island, a sand-covered undeveloped oasis for Gold Coast day trippers.
Here you'll find plenty of opportunities for surfing, walking, swimming or simply the general beachy laziness that makes for a fantastic, relaxing holiday.
To get there, you can either drive up the coast or jump on a water taxi from Surfers Paradise.
Springbrook National Park
Heading inland and South you'll find the Springbrook National Park, where you can take a guided day trip walk through this World Heritage Rainforest.
"While there's an array of things to do in the area, one of the best is the opportunity for food lovers to stop off at some of the fudge, cheese and chocolate factories around the area."
The walk isn't too taxing at just 4.5km, but you'll have to remember to keep and eye on where you're stepping occasionally as you will likely be distracted by the epic beauty of the rainforest.
Waterfalls, 2,000 year of Antarctic beech trees and glow worms are just some of the highlights you can expect to see, as well as a provided lunch for your group.
The Hinterland
Just a thirty minute drive from the Gold Coast will see you arrive at the Gold Coast Hinterland - which gives you plenty of time to explore.
While there's an array of things to do in the area, one of the best is the opportunity for food lovers to stop off at some of the fudge, cheese and chocolate factories around the area.
Then wash it all down on a wine tour.
Remember that these are just three of the great ideas for a memorable Gold Coast family holiday, and there are so many more things to do in areas just waiting to be found!
