You'll be bowled away at the ICC Cricket World Cup

ICC Cricket World Cup 2015

The cricketing world is getting set for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup, and Australia is lucky enough to have been named co-host of this exciting event.

Our nation joins New Zealand to showcase the best cricketing teams in the world, coming together in pursuit of one simple goal - to be named the best of the best. Matches are being played at major centres around Australia, giving you plenty of chances to take in the action live from the sports grounds.

About the ICC Cricket World Cup

The World Cup occurs every four years and is a significant event on the international cricketing calendar. It started in England in 1975, and the last was held in 2011 and won by India. The matches take on a limited 50-over format, similar to that seen in one day international matches. Next year's tournament will be the 11th edition, co-hosted by two nations that last joined together to do the honours way back in 1992, putting their enduring trans-Tasman rivalry to the side in the name of sport.

Featuring 14 teams from all over the world, it's one of the biggest international sporting tournaments that is expected to fetch television audiences of more than a billion people, according to the official ICC World Cup site. There's no other cricketing event like it, with more than 400 accredited players and officials taking to the field to play the sport they love most.

Australia has won the Cup four times, most notably taking out three in a row in 1999, 2003 and 2007. This year, our boys line up in Pool A alongside England, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, New Zealand, Afghanistan and Scotland. Pool B's collection of teams is equally formidable, featuring South Africa, India, Pakistan, West Indies, Zimbabwe, Ireland and United Arab Emirates.

Schedule of matches

Australia's major centres are each receiving their fair share of games. The first on the Australian schedule is between long-standing rivals Australia and England, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Valentine's Day. Adelaide Oval gets into the action the next day when India and Pakistan step up to the plate before Canberra, Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Hobart play host. The final will be held at Melbourne Cricket Ground on 29 March.
