Adelaide is one of Australia's most exciting destinations and one of the best cities in Australia for footy fever!

Check out these four reasons why Adelaide is a great destination for your footy break.

You can't beat the footy culture

Adelaide Oval, the city's sporting hub, has recently brought it’s sporting events back into the centre of the city so everyone can enjoy the action.

Now Aussie's favourite game, Aussie Rules, is playing on the new grounds, along with cricket. Plus, there's a superstar line-up of bands and singers set to play shows at this venue.

The AFL was previously played in a stadium out of the central city, but now it's right in the centre of town making it incredibly accessible and right amongst bars, restaurants and the casino, too.

Make your way along to the oval for a game, and cheer on Port Adelaide and the Adelaide Crows. Currently Port Adelaide is at the top of the AFL ladder, making it the perfect time to head to their home ground!

You can even take a guided Adelaide Oval tour if you're keen to get behind the scenes, see where all the backstage action happens and learn about the history of the oval.

Make sure you also check out the surrounding riverbank and parklands precincts, which have been revitalised in the stadium's upgrades process.

Adelaide has awesome accommodation

There's great accommodation in Adelaide right near the oval, so you can stay close to footy's new home in the city. Mantra hotels have two fantastic hotels within walking distance. Mantra Hindmarsh Square is less than two kilometres from the Adelaide Oval, so you can easily get to and from your destination.

Opt for a studio room, or a one or two bedroom suite.

Then there's Mantra on Frome, also just around two kilometres from the Adelaide Oval. Choose from a studio, or a one, two or three-bedroom apartment and enjoy the great facilities on offer, such as an in-room massage – don’t worry we won’t tell your mates!

There are great pubs and entertainment venues

There are also plenty more pubs, bars and attractions to enjoy around the oval and your accommodation choice.

Head to Rundle Street and shop til you drop at Rundle Mall, which has more than 700 stores on its premises. Perfect if you have had to bring your other half along and they aren’t interested in the footy! There are also plenty of cool and quirky cafes and bars, not to mention boutique stores, waiting amongst the charming laneways and historic buildings.

Check out The Griffins, the Austral Hotel and Union Hotel bars, and Hotel Wright Street and Worldsend Hotel pubs all in the central city for a drink or two.

Don't forget the Adelaide Skycity Casino either. There is a direct foot bridge across the river that allows you to walk right from the Adelaide Oval to the Casino and Festival Centre for a whole host of entertainment.

It's easy to get around

Adelaide is also an incredibly easy city to get around. You'll be able to walk to many attractions from your accommodation, but there's also wonderful public transport available.

Adelaide Metro runs buses, trains and trams throughout the city. Catching a tram is a quintessential Adelaide experience, so make sure you include a trip on one of these into your holiday.

A good option is to pick up an Adelaide Metro Visitor Pass when you arrive in the city, as this includes unlimited travel for three days in the city and comes with helpful maps and guides. If you're staying longer than three days, you can then top your card up with credit to pay for normal fares, which are well-priced.

Taxis are also readily available and accept credit cards, or you can hire a car.

Get ready to head to Adelaide and experience some great footy, along with everything else this vibrant city has to offer.
