Puccini's well loved masterpiece Madama Butterfly is one of the most popular operas around the world, and now Sydneysiders can get an exclusive performance set against the majestic backdrop of the Sydney Harbour between 21 March - 13 April 2014.

Watch the tale unfold as never before, as the Handa Opera takes on the time-honoured tale of a geisha's doomed love for a fickle naval officer.

Hiromi Omura and Hyeseoung Kwon will be taking on the role of Cio-Cio-San while Georgy Vasiliev and Andeka Gorrotxategi will be breathing life into the character of Pinkerton. The production promises to be a spectacular affair on its own, bringing to life the haunting arias and sweeping music of Madama Butterfly.

In honour of the occasion, the harbour-front venue will be transformed into a beautiful Japanese garden complete with Japanese-inspired dishes and drinks to tempt your tastebuds.

Madama Butterfly is traditionally performed in Italian, but if your language skills aren't quite up to scratch you won't have to worry. Subtitles will be projected onto screens beside the stage, so you won't have to miss a minute of the action.

There will be a range of dining establishments and bars open so you can really make a night of it, with a 35 minute interval in the middle allowing you to refresh yourself for the next half of the performance and top up your beverages.

The opera will finish around 10.15pm, and Adina Garden Bar will be open afterwards to serve any late-night customers looking to avoid the after-show rush.
