Classical music fans are in for a treat on October 3, with a special performance at the Sydney Opera House by one of Australia's most exciting orchestra groups - the Australian World Orchestra (AWO).

Conducted by the internationally renowned Zubin Mehta and featuring a variety of well-loved pieces by Stravinsky and Mahler, the AWO performance in Sydney is one that's not to be missed!

About the performance

This year marks a very special occasion, as the 100th anniversary of the performance of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring.

Be there to bask in the glorious sounds of a full orchestra, and get swept away by all the power, passion and virtuosity in Stravinsky's work.

"This year marks a very special occasion, as the 100th anniversary of the performance of Igor Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring.

The Rite of Spring actually caused a riot when it was first performed in Paris 100 years ago, as audiences reacted to its unconventional rhythms and tonality - and now you can get a chance to experience all the power of the piece when the AWO performs it on October 3.

The AWO will also be performing Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1, which promises to be a similarly engrossing piece - look out for strains of the famous Frere Jacques tune in the opening of the third movement!

Conducted by Zubin Mehta, the celebrated Indian Parsi conductor, the AWO will perform at the Concert Hall in the Sydney Opera House on October 3. Mantra has plenty of nearby hotels in Sydney such as Mantra 2 Bond Street, so there are more than a few accommodation options available.

About the orchestra

The AWO brings together some of the most successful classical musicians from Australia and beyond, with many players returning back home from stints at the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic, and more.

Over 100 musicians make up the full roster of the AWO. With that much talent under one roof, there's sure to be an exciting performance in store for those who see their concert series in Melbourne and Sydney this year.
