The Royal Melbourne Show is back for 2013 and there are plenty of things to see, eat, and do for the whole family.

From September 21 - October 2, the Melbourne Showgrounds will be bursting with food, events, workshops, entertainment, agricultural experiences and blue ribbon competitions including a Youth Challenge and a Young Farmers' Challenge.

Mantra has a range of hotels in Melbourne to choose from such as Mantra on Little Bourke, so it's easy to get to the Showgrounds in time for all the action!

All about the show

The Royal Melbourne Show is the largest community event in Victoria, bringing together a wide range of attractions, exhibitors, competitors and more for a fun day out that's great for all the family.

There's plenty of free activities and live entertainment to enjoy as well, and with award-winning food and wine on hand your family will be all set!


"From September 7-28 this year, the city will come alive with colour and energy through its calendar of comedies, artistic performances, sights, sounds and theatre.


The show is presented by the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria (RASV). It debuted back in 1848 as a ploughing competition in Moonee Ponds, and this year will mark the 158th show the RASV has organised.

From its origins as a small competition to this year's 12-day event, the Royal Melbourne Show has a proud history of being a family-friendly event.

What's on this year

This year, the kids can go wild with the Adventure Zone and carnival with plenty of showbags filled with goodies to take home as well.

Have a walk through the Animal Nursery to see alpacas, goats, horses, dogs and more or catch some of the best of the best competing in a range of Blue Ribbon competitions. You can also try your hand at sheep shearing, milking and more in the Agricultural Discovery section.

Of course, there's lots of shopping to be done as well with the Art, Craft & Cookery Pavilion, Fine Food Deli, Tastes of Victoria Pavilion and Home & Living Pavilion bringing you the best of Victorian producers.
