You don’t have to venture far from home to realise that the Easter spirit is already in the air, with grocery isles filling up with lots of yummy chocolate treats, and it's set to be a full-on feast for the senses in April as Sydney's Royal Easter Show springs into action.

Whether you attend the show annually or are wondering what to do in Sydney over the Easter break this year, the Royal Easter Show cannot be missed. Make sure you bring the whole family along for this fun-filled extravaganza of entertainment, food, competitions, friendly animals and much more.

Since 1823 the infamous event has been delighting families, and it shows no signs of slowing down with a line-up that continues to improve on every year. The theme for 2014 is 'Let your senses run wild', and will be featuring a wide range of activities to enjoy – so you and your family are definitely in for a sweet Easter treat!

A favourite with animal lovers, the Farmyard Nursery offers the chance to play with cute and friendly farm animals. Watch the live sheep shearing demonstration and get a taste of the country lifestyle right in the heart of Sydney. Everything from alpacas and horses to dogs, pigs and goats will be onsite during the event.

If you're feeling hungry make sure you grab a seat in the Sydney Royal Beer and Wine Garden, where you can enter foodie heaven with match ups of culinary masterpieces and award-winning beverages. You won't want to miss the District Exhibits either, which showcase fresh produce from five agricultural districts of New South Wales and Queensland. Each exhibit is a colourful combination of artistic design and fresh fruits, vegetables, grains and more, so you can easily spend an hour or two ogling the skills of the creators.

There are lots of traditional show food options to keep the kids happy, along with competitions and rides to enjoy - there's truly something for everyone in this carnival atmosphere. The Royal Easter Show is held at the expansive Sydney Showground, so if you’re looking for holiday accommodation you’ll find it close by at Mantra on Kent which is a short 20 minutes’ drive away.
