Head to Canberra for the 2014 Variety Santa Fun Run

Santa Fun Run, Canberra

Suit up for a run to remember on December 7 with the Variety Santa Fun Run. Held all around the country, the Canberra event takes participants from Westside at Acton Park around Lake Burley Griffin for a total distance of 6km.

The event is inclusive and welcomes entrants of all ages and abilities, and is at heart a fundraising and awareness-raising event for Variety, a children's charity that helps out sick, disadvantaged and special needs children around the nation.

About the event

The fun run kicks off bright and early at 8.30 am, with one special catch - all participants are dressed in Santa costumes. The outfits - complete with hat, beard, jacket, pants and belt - come included in the entrance fee, which is $40 for adults and $25 for children. Families can enter for a special price, and little ones aged under 2 can participate for free. Your entry fee also goes toward the cost of hosting the event, and then it's up to you to fundraise to help Variety support kids in need. Just $50 can be enough to send a child to a Variety Kids Christmas Party, and $200 can help provide medical necessities for a child. Every little bit helps, and as everyone gets dressed up and into the spirit on the day, it's a truly fantastic event that is fun for everyone involved. You can even bring your dog along to help you out on the course! And don't worry if your fitness leaves a little to be desired - you can simply walk the course, and wheelchairs are also welcome to allow everyone to feel the Christmas spirit.

You can participate alone or register as a team, with prams also allowed on the course. Just remember it's a fun run and not a race, so feel free to go at your own pace.
