Enjoy racing and revelling at the Melbourne Cup Carnival

Melbourne Cup Carnival celebrates its 154th year

Make sure you're in town for one of Melbourne's most exciting and popular events - the 2014 Melbourne Cup Carnival - which is taking place on November 4. This year, the enduring event celebrates its 154th year running, so get ready for the biggest and best racing and off-field action you've ever seen.

Get your tickets for general admission, reserved grandstand seating and entry into the Precinct. This is a special area brimming with dining and drinking options, as well as live entertainment between races, a superscreen, betting facilities and shaded areas in which to enjoy the festive atmosphere and the thrill of the races.

You might even want to purchase a ticket for another of the event's exclusive areas, such as the Parade Lounge, which offers stunning views of the parade ring and city, or the Makybe Diva Marquee, which boasts fashionably dressed patrons and some wonderful food such as a three-course plated lunch and private betting facilities.

While the actual horse racing is always incredible to watch, make sure you take the time to soak in some of the Cup's other fantastic events, such as the Fashions on the Field competition, in which the best dressed guests walk the catwalk and show off their amazing outfits - but only one can be crowned the Myer Fashions on the Field National Winner! If you're eager to enter this contest, now's the time to get your ensemble ready.

Remember, this event takes place annually at the Flemington Racecourse, which is just 6km northwest of the central city and is accessible via public transport or car. This venue has been hosting races since 1840, so there's a whole lot of history to discover.
