On December 14, Mooloolaba will light up with a succession of sparkling boats as they sail around the local waterways.

The Christmas Boat Parade is one of the most family-friendly holiday events on the Sunshine Coast, perfect for those looking for that extra touch of holiday magic during the silly season.

The flotilla of illuminated boats makes for a magical sight, and there are also plenty of other activities for your kids to enjoy as well! Watch out for some wacky boats as the entrants go all out to impress the viewers and take the top prize of Best-Dressed Boat for 2013.

If you're wondering where to stay during this festive event, Mantra has plenty of holiday accommodation to get you sorted. Mantra Mooloolaba Beach is placed right on the Esplanade along the beachfront, just a short distance away from Parkyn Parade where many of the boats will sail by.

The 2013 Christmas Boat Parade

This year there's as much fun to look forward to as ever, with the entrants all vying for the title of Best-Dressed Boat.

All of the entry fees for competitors will be donated to the Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre Inc for this year, so you can support the work of this non-profit community organisation while you enjoy the spectacular sights.

The various vessels entered into this year's competition will be decked out with all manner of lights, decorations and festive bells and whistles to give them the best chance of taking out the number one spot.

However, the sailors aren't the only ones who are getting into the Christmas spirit this year. Houses and apartments all around the Mooloolaba River will be 'dressed up' on the night as well, mirroring the magic happening on the water.

A 'Best-Dressed House' title is also up for grabs, so residents will be getting crafty in their bid to take home the gold.

Your kids can get in on the fun as well with a special colouring competition, and some great prizes from Mr Toys ToyWorld are sure to make their Christmas gift haul even bigger!
