The Lion King musical is one of the most loved productions in the world, with audiences and critics alike praising this one-of-a-kind performance. Now you can discover all the magic of the show for yourself when The Lion King comes to Sydney from December 5.

Held at the Capitol Theatre just a short distance away from Mantra on Kent, this is one of the upcoming events in Sydney that you definitely won't want to miss - especially if you love your musicals!

The Lion King: The Musical

Almost everyone has seen and loved the classic Disney film The Lion King, and it's proved to be just as much of a smash hit on stage.

To date, over 65 million people around the world have seen Julie Taymor's re-imagining of the popular film and the production has netted over 70 international theatre awards - including six Tony Awards and one Grammy.


"The Lion King first opened on Broadway in 1997 and it's still going strong today, delighting audiences around the world with its unique blend of song, dance and special effects.


It's one of the highest-grossing Broadway shows of all time, and now Australians have a chance to experience the magic when it comes to Sydney later this year.

Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata, Can You Feel the Love Tonight? and many more of your favourites from the film will be performed in spectacular fashion during the show, which is set in the Serengeti Plains.

Fun facts about the musical

This complex and majestic production involves over 700 different lighting instruments to create the right mood and atmosphere for Pride Rock, the Elephant Graveyard, Rafiki's Tree and other iconic set pieces.

Director Julie Taymor was approached specially by Disney Chair Michael Eisner to help create a stage version of the film, and she has had a hand in not only the direction of the production but the costume, mask and puppet design as well.
