Top 3 beaches in Western Australia

3 best beaches in Western Australia

Western Australia is known for its sprawling beaches, which are characterised by stunningly turquoise water, stretches of blue-saturated sky, endless kilometres of white sand and some of the best snorkelling this side of anywhere. If the Indian Ocean is calling you, WA is undoubtedly the place to be.

But where to? The WA coast spans a mind-boggling 20,781 kilometers, according to Tourism Western Australia. There are a seemingly infinite number of places to explore, and each beach has its own unique vibe. From party hotspots to secluded hideaways, there's something for everyone.

Cottesloe Beach

One of Perth's most well-known locales Cottesloe Beach encompasses the perfect combination of mainstream amenities and stunning beauty. Watch the sun set over the Indian Ocean as you recline on the grassy knoll that lies just beyond the edge of the sand, or venture to one of the many events that occur at the beach (such as the annual Sculpture by the Sea exhibition, which occurs during mid-March). If you simply can't imagine being anywhere but along the coastline itself, you'll enjoy clean, warm sand between your toes. All that just 15 minutes from downtown Perth!

For holiday accommodation within a quick drive of Cottesloe Beach, stay at Mantra on Murray. Thanks to its location in Perth's Central Business District, this well-placed hotel is within walking distance of a number of the city's most desirable attractions and shopping areas. It's easy to get to the beach by taking the Fremantle Line toward Fremantle Street - a quick 15-minute ride.

Cable Beach

Located in Broome, Cable Beach is one of Australia's most well-known stretches of coast. With 22 km of stunningly white sand, Cable Beach was named for the telegraph cable that was laid here, connecting Broome to Java and opening the area's communications up to the outside world back in 1889. Today, the beach is a popular tourist destination that offers gorgeous views, year-round warm water and the opportunity to take a sunset camel ride along the coast. We call that a win-win. The only time you may want to avoid swimming at Cable Beach is during the wet season (November to May), due to the prevalence of jellyfish that populate the area.

If we've convinced you Cable Beach is the place to be, head to the Mantra Frangipani Broome. This high-end resort is so close to the beach, you can walk there! It's also a 10-minute drive from the centre of town, so you simply can't beat the location. Just make sure to bring your thongs.

Turquoise Bay

We'd be amiss to talk about the best beaches in Western Australia without mentioning the Coral Coast. This entire region is home to some of the world's most stunning beaches, as well as equally famous coral reefs. The Ningaloo Reef is one such attraction, and it sits at the foot of beautiful Turquoise Bay Beach. This stretch of coast is renowned around the world for its beauty. Let the crystal-clear water lap up against your feet as you gaze out onto a sea of turquoise. Snorkel around the beach and the nearby reef to catch a glimpse of some of the world's most beautiful sea creatures. Or just simply lie on the beach under the bright blue sky, reading or snoozing to your heart's content.

Mantra Geraldton is the place to be if you want to visit the many beautiful beaches along the coral coast. Geraldton itself has its share of beaches, as well as plenty of windsurfing and kiteboarding opportunities. It's a day's drive from Turquoise Bay, but it puts you at a great starting point for enjoying the many beaches and attractions that make up the Coral Coast, including Monkey Mia, Kalbarri and Coral Bay.
