Experience the magic of Karakamia Sanctuary on a two hour guided walk at dusk. Setting off along a bush track just before sunset, you will have the chance to see a variety of nocturnal animals including Woylies, Tammar Wallabies and Quenda (Southern Brown Bandicoots).

Karakamia Sanctuary has a visitors centre with an information area, toilets, and a sit-down area where you can relax while you enjoy a hot drink and a quick chat after your walk.

The walk follows rocky bush-tracks which can be slippery and there are some hills along the way. Participants need to be of moderate fitness and stable on their feet. The walk is not suitable for children under seven.

Australian Wildlife Conservancy purchased the site in 1991 to protect the threatened mammals of the northern jarrah forest. The name “Karakamia” is an aboriginal word meaning home of the Red-tailed Black Cockatoos.

Karakamia Sanctuary is open all year for guided tours at dusk (weather permitting). By road the sanctuary is approximately one hour east of Perth, near the small town of Chidlow. Bookings are essential.
