Fraser Coast

Taking in Fraser Island, Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro and the Great Sandy Straits, the Fraser Coast is renowned as one of the country's premier nature destinations and the acclaimed capital of whale watching for Queensland, if not Australia.

Featuring two World Heritage listed areas of the world's largest sand island, Fraser Island, and the southernmost access point to the Great Barrier Reef, the region is a haven for marine life and loved by visitors for its safe swimming beaches, breath-taking views and pristine national parks.

Each year thousands of visitors flock to the region, most notably Hervey Bay, to witness the amazing humpback whales frolic with their calves in the warm resting waters off Hervey Bay. From late July through to early November is the best time to catch these majestic animals on their migration back to cool Antarctic oceans.

Bordered by 40 kilometres of stunning coastline, Hervey Bay offers access to Fraser Island, the world’s largest sand island, and Lady Elliot Island the most southern coral cay of the Great Barrier Reef. Hervey Bay Australia is also the best destination to experience whale watching season. Visit Hervey Bay »
