The story behind the Sonoma Baking Company is one of passion, hard work and humble beginnings with just one aim in mind: to bake Australia's best sourdough bread. Inspired by the artisan bakers in northern California, the Connole brothers Andrew and Christian and their dad Kerry embarked on this dream in 1998 with no baking experience, a jar of sourdough starter and an old wood-fired oven in their family's home town of Bellata, north-western NSW.
Today the business may have grown in scope but their determination to deliver the most authentic sourdough bread in Australia remains steadfast. In addition to delivering sourdough bread to a number of Sydney's top restaurants and grocer's, Sonoma's five cafes, Dank Street Waterloo, Paddington, Glebe, Bondi and the newly opened HQ Alexandria, continue to thrive, serving gourmet sandwiches and of course, fresh Sonoma sourdough.
