Wet weather holiday ideas.
Nothing can put a damper on a holiday quite like rain - if only we could control the weather!
Yet no matter where in Australia you are taking a break, there are plenty of activities to keep you and the kids occupied - you may just have to get a little creative.
Here are five ideas that will keep the whole family happy.
1. In-room movies
You may have envisaged spending your holiday stretched out on a white beach with a drink in hand while the kids splash in the surf, but hey, sometimes life throws you a curve ball!
Don't let the wet weather get you down. You're on holiday, which means you're not at work! Sit back, relax and enjoy having spare time to do the things you love, such as watching all of your favourite movies.
Hiring an in-room movie is a great way to pass the hours and keep the kids entertained. If the family can't agree on movie choices, then let the kids decide and unwind with a few magazines or a good book.
2. Relax and unwind in a day spa
Can you think of a better way to spend a rainy day than relaxing in a day spa? Many of our Mantra resorts feature in-house spas, such as Mantra Amphora and Mantra Crown Towers.
Leave the boys at home and pop down to the spa for a manicure or facial with your daughter(s).
Or even better, some hotels have in-house babysitting services, meaning you can take a few hours off parental duties and enjoy a couples massage with your loved one.
"A family board game is a great way to keep everyone entertained during wet weather."
4. Get your game on
Puzzles and board games are a classic for all family holidays - regardless of whether it is raining or not.
A simple card game or a round of Monopoly can keep everyone entertained and happy for hours on end.
Be sure to pack a few of your favourite games before you head away, just in case the weather isn't as sunny and clear as you hope.
Alternatively, many of our hotels have dedicated games rooms! Mantra Circle on Cavill, Mantra Crown Towers and Mantra Sun City all feature games rooms, perfect for the kids.
5. Get busy in the kitchen with the kids
If you are staying in a holiday apartment, you can enjoy complete access to full kitchen facilities.
Take some inspiration from the contestants on MasterChef or My Kitchen Rules and put on an apron!
Find a recipe that is kid-friendly and recruit the help of your little ones.
Baking is an excellent activity for the whole family, especially if you decorate cakes or use cookie cutters to make different biscuit shapes.
If your children are older, then you may even like to run a family cook-off competition of your own. Separate into teams and take care of a meal each, such as dinner or dessert.
Try to make it your aim to cook with local produce from around the region - a way to get to know the area you are staying in that much better.
And of course the best part is eating your delicious concoctions fresh out of the oven!
