Wish Melbourne a happy 178th birthday this August!
Have you made plans for Melbourne day yet?
August 30 is the annual day of celebration for Melbournians, although they have cleverly expanded the day into a full week of festive activities to squeeze the most out of the city's birthday.
This year, Melbourne is turning the grand old age of 178.
One of the benchmark events of this annual celebration is the Lord Mayor's official Melbourne Day Oration, which will be hosted this year at the RACV Club on Bourke Street on Thursday 29 over a corporate lunch. If you want to hear Robert Doyle speak, you'll have to get in quick and book your tickets before they sell out.
Apart from that, the whole city will explode with excitement and colour as dozens of restaurants, retail stores and attractions are getting into the spirit of things and offering visitors to the city and locals special deals, discounts and extra events.

A Laugh Out Loud (LOL) party will be held on the eve of Melbourne Day at the Comic's Lounge with local comedian and Australian hero, Hung Le, heading up the evening. You can stop by just for a laugh or plan a night out and book in your dinner reservation as well.
If you've got kids in tow (or even if you don't) the Melbourne Aquarium could be a great place to visit during the week, as it is offering 20 per cent discounts to all visitors who stop by. The Medibank Icehouse is even offering two-for-one deals on tickets for a few laps around the ice rink - but this offer is only valid on August 30 to be sure to plan that attraction in advance!
There are also a host of bars and restaurants offering deals around the city, so book in your centrally-located Melbourne accommodation to get in the midst of it all and enjoy one of the biggest events on the Melbourne calendar!
