Gearing up for that long-awaited Gold Coast family holiday in Surfers Paradise? This iconic Queensland destination has so much to offer, from great shopping, a variety of activities and Australia's favourite theme parks - not to mention that gorgeous beach!

However, when it comes to food it's always good to be prepared, especially if you've got a hungry family ready to tuck into a tasty meal, and the good news is that Surfers Paradise has plenty of family-friendly restaurants to satisfy even the most picky appetite! You don't want to be wandering around in search of food with young children in tow, (and if you are you definitely need to read our Insider's Guide for families on the Gold Coast) or if you're travelling solo or as a couple you'll need to know where the best places are to dine, so get ahead with this guide to the top five eating spots in Surfers Paradise.

1. Bumbles

A friendly little bistro establishment, Bumbles is open for breakfast, brunch and lunch everyday, and dinner on Thursdays.

It offers great coffee and tasty cafe-style food presented beautifully in a warm and friendly atmosphere. It is located at 19 River Drive (just five minutes from the CBD) and showcases a perfect home-style environment to chow down in - plus the menu is sure to have something for everyone.

Looking for breakfast? Choose from a menu featuring omelettes, smoked salmon and delightfully sweet pikelets. Lunch? Make sure you try Bumbles' homemade dips, or indulge in a classic burger, salad or wrap. That's not even mentioning the many sweet treats and drinks on offer, which you'll just have to come back and try as well!

2. Vapiano

Located at 8 Cavill Avenue, along the Soul Boardwalk, and boasting a menu full of flavoursome Italian classics, your family are sure to enjoy chowing down at Vapiano.

The child-friendly atmosphere of the restaurant goes well with its diverse range of tasty dishes such as their antipasti platter, arrabbiata, fresh pasta and their wide array of delicious pizzas.

With food that tastes this good, even the most capricious of little appetites is sure to be tempted by the wonderful aromas and tastes at Vapiano - and what's even better is that the knowledgeable and passionate chefs will cook your dishes right in front of you to truly make the dining experience special.

"Vapiano is consistently a great place to eat," said a satisfied TripAdvisor reviewer. "All of the meals are made fresh in front of you while you wait. I've had some amazing tasting pizzas and pastas as well as antipasto here, and will return and keep returning."

3. Betty's Burgers

Right in the heart of Surfer's Paradise Boulevard, you will discover Betty's Burgers. With aqua coloured booths, and tropical decorations, you'll feel as though a classic American diner has met the beach in this fun, funky restaurant. Serving up delicious burgers (our favourite's are the Betty's Classic and the Crispy Chicken), the crunchiest of french fries and onion rings, and frozen custard dessert called 'Concrete', this is classic, belly-filling and heart-warming food.

If you have a penchant for truly delicious burgers, without all the grease you'd find in a usual takeaway spot, Betty's is the place for you!

4. Hard Rock Cafe

Located at the corner of Cavill Avenue and Surfers Paradise Boulevard, the Hard Rock Cafe is the perfect spot to grab a bite with a hungry family.

Within easy walking distance of the beach, Hard Rock Cafe serves up traditional American cuisine as well as fresh new flavours in a friendly atmosphere with music and entertainment. With plenty of tasty food on offer such as Tupelo Chicken Tenders, Santa Fe Spring Rolls and the classic Hard Rock Nachos piled high with cheese and pinto beans, you'll easily get your fill at the Hard Rock Cafe.

Plus, if you can pry your eyes away from the delicious food for just a moment, you'll see a range of fascinating celebrity memorabilia located around the building. For example, there is a guitar that was once played by KISS's Paul Stanley, a hand-written letter from Guns N' Roses' Slash to his ex-girlfriend, and a Mada guitar played and signed by Willie Nelson in 2007.

5. Chiangmai Thai

Frequently ranking highly in Trip Advisor's list of the best restaurants in Surfers Paradise, Chiangmai Thai offers a child-friendly dining environment with a wide array of tasty Thai cuisine.

Located at 5 Palm Avenue, Chiangmai Thai has a reasonably priced menu and a great location for those looking to make the most of their Gold Coast vacation. What's better, this family-run restaurant has been open since 1993, and soon grew to be so busy and popular it needed two locations. The venue is filled with an exotic Thai aesthetic, including gold-accented features, wooden carvings and elephant chairs - all brought over from Thailand itself.

Just recently, Chiangmai Thai was voted by readers of the Gold Cost Bulletin as the best Thai restaurant in the area, beating out nine other restaurants.

Asian food lovers will be in culinary heaven with the fresh and delectable dishes on offer here, so make sure to stop by with your family the next time you're in the area.
