Bowls is an incredibly popular sport the world over, with over 500,000 people participating in Australia alone, according to the 2010 Bowls Australia National Bowls Census Report. Did you know that this fun past time could yield you a prize packet of $225,000 this year?
Bowls Australian Open
The Bowls Australian Open will be taking place on the sunny Gold Coast this year from June 12-25. Though the event has traditionally taken place in Melbourne, the 2015 edition has shifted northeast to take part in clubs all over the popular Queensland tourist area. This is great news for participants, as it means not only will you get to play the sport you enjoy, but also see one of the country's most famous holiday destinations, utilising its world-class resort accommodation facilities.
"Whether you want to compete by yourself or bring along the whole team, you are guaranteed a few matches, and a chance at winning the national title!"
Open means open
Before you say, "But I didn't qualify...", the Australian Open this year is well and truly open. There are no state qualifiers, leaving the major competition available to all those who wish to have a go at winning the prize.
There are a number of disciplines you can enter, including Singles, Pairs and Fours, but also Under-18 and Bowlers with a Disability (singles and pairs) too. So whether you want to compete by yourself or bring along the whole team, you are guaranteed a few matches, and a chance at winning the national title.
Bowls Australia estimates that around 4,000 people will be attending the competition this year, so you’ll meet plenty of new faces to meet and chat with. You never know, you might go away with a whole group of new, life-long friends alongside that $225,000!
What's even better, many of the region's tourist attractions - such as Bluewater Cruises and Ocean Thrill Jet Boat Rides - are offering deals on their services through the Aussie Open website, so check out what discounts are available you can get and make the most of your Gold Coast trip this June.
