Those who love horses and all things horse-racing must head along to the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, taking place throughout May and June this year with a few impressive highlights along the way. This event is held annually and is a favourite for equestrians throughout the country and even internationally. Racing champs from Australia and New Zealand battle it out on the field with plenty of prize money at play for the winners.

Not only is it an exciting festival for racing, it's also somewhat of a social highlight and a chance for some to show off their fashion choices.

So what's on offer throughout the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival's duration?

One of the standout events on offer is the 2014 Stradbroke Handicap on Stradbroke Day, June 7. This day out offers extreme thrills both on and off the field so it's definitely one to watch. It takes place each year at the Eagle Farm racecourse and there's an incredibly big bounty at stake with a prize pool of over $1,300,000! Watch the horses race over a distance of 1,400 metres and hold your breath for your desired champion, as this is sure to be one tense experience!

The Stradbroke Handicap race in particular is renowned for incredible sprinters. Many horses that have taken out awards here have gone on to experience some impressive winning streaks around the rest of the country. Witness horses from all around Australia gallop down the track in a bid to bring glory to their hometowns! If you're equally as interested in the style of the races as you are the horses, you'll love the Fashions on the Field competition that is held around midday before much-anticipated racing. Here women will line up in their gorgeous racing day outfits and one will be crowned the winner - perhaps it could be you! Make sure you've got your best dress and fascinator ready if you want to be a contender for the title.

There are various ticket types on offer, whether you want to attend the lawn party, relax in an exclusive lounge, sit in the grand stand or grab a corporate suite. From practical viewing to the option of being surrounded by luxury for the day, the Stradbroke Day really has something for everyone.

Another must-attend day out for horse racing enthusiasts is the Ipswich Cup. This is the biggest race on offer by the Ipswich Turf Club takes place each year during the carnival. It also comes with some incredibly tempting prize money - $200,000 in total! Get ready for this exciting equine event on Saturday June 14 - and if you're planning to try your luck make sure you place your bets wisely!

There are various tickets available for this event too, from general admission to private marquees, so you can choose exactly how you spend this exciting day out.
