Celebrate in style in Sydney It's the Year of the Horse and you're invited to help celebrate!

As Australia's New Year festivities draw to a close, cities throughout the country are preparing to welcome the start of the next Chinese calendar.

Sydney is just one of them and has a series of events to mark Year of the Horse. So if you are wondering what to do in Sydney from January 24 - February 9 then look no further.

Official festivities get underway in Belmore Park, where the Chinese New Year markets will be held. Starting at 6pm, this is a great place to soak up the atmosphere and maybe even sample some of the cuisine China is famous for.

One of the highlights will be an exhibition at the city's town hall. 'Crossing Boundaries: A Celebration of Asian Australian Art in the Year of the Horse' will explore the relationship between Australia and Asia through a range of media.

"Sydney has a number of events planned to mark the start of the Chinese New Year later this month.

Many of the artists involved in the exhibition will be holding forums throughout the duration of the festival, while visitors can also expect daily floor talks.

An event that draws in the crowds year after year is the Twilight Parade, which starts from Sydney Town Hall. The procession travels to Chinatown before being finished off with a fireworks display at Darling Harbour.

Buildings throughout the CBD are illuminated throughout the parade, while floats symbolising key aspects of Chinese culture make their way through the streets to the sound of authentic music.

Hundreds if not thousands of people line the streets every year to take part in what is a truly unforgettable evening of entertainment.

You can always extend your stay in the city by booking holiday accommodation such as Mantra 2 Bond Street, which offers easy access to the CBD and other areas of New South Wales.
