Top three family-friendly activities in St Kilda

Take a trip to St Kilda in Melbourne, and don't forget to visit Luna park! Top three family-friendly activities in St Kilda.

St Kilda is one of Melbourne's most exciting areas.

Who would've guessed that such a vibrant place of activity could pop up in such a small area, but it has, and it's called St Kilda.

Once you've booked in your Melbourne accommodation, you'll be keen to start deciding where you want to visit. It doesn't matter how long you're away for - you'll have no trouble filling up your time with fun activities that everyone can enjoy.

Three things the area is known for is its famous markets, the sea baths, and Luna Park.

St Kilda Markets

Who doesn't love a good market? By their very nature, a marketplace has something for everyone, and St Kilda, being the cultural hub that it is, has several of them to keep you marketing hopping all day long!

The Esplanade Market has been alive and well every Sunday since 1970 and has created a name for itself as a special place for special trinkets with a focus on local artwork. Almost 200 of the state's best artists and craftspeople display and sell their work as they interact with the public. You'll find handmade pieces of wood, glass, paper, resin, and recycled materials. You'll find all of them on the Upper Esplanade every Sunday, rain or shine, from 10am until 5pm. Pick up a treasure for yourself or something for a friend back home for a truly unique souvenir.

Next up, there's the 'Veg Out St Kilda Farmers' Market', which is open on the first Saturday of every month. Offering some of the most organic and low impact fresh produce on the market, you'll be able to stock up on vegetables, herbs, juices, cheeses, honey, wine, smoked meat and fish and free range eggs for your stay in Melbourne.

St Kilda Sea Baths

Anyone who has been to Melbourne will tell you all about the St Kilda Sea Baths, a place you can visit to take a dip in baths that use real sea water to offer additional therapeutic benefits alongside the general great feeling you get from taking a bath.

There's a 25 metre seawater pool, a hydrotherapy spa pool, an aromatherapy steam room and a lounge area to check out the great view of the bay.

Sea water has natural healing properties and can help to relieve muscle soreness, injuries and skin ailments - all ideal for a truly relaxing holiday!

Aside from the baths, the area also boasts a great array of restaurants, bars and cafes to wine and dine your day away.

One more unmissable spot at the baths is Kite Republic where you can hire a kiteboard or standup paddle board. They will kit you out with all the equipment and training you need to spend a stunning day at the beach floating around on a board and taking some fantastic photos while you're at it.

Luna Park

Melbourne families have been visiting Luna Park for over a century now, with the attraction celebrating its 100 year anniversary in 2012.

A visit to the fun park requires a stop on the Scenic Railway Roller Coaster, the most famous and iconic of rides. It circumnavigates the entire park, and is the oldest continually operating wooden roller coast in the world, not to mention the view of the surrounding Port Phillip Bay.

There are rides for all ages - even mini roller coasters for the young ones (with great names like Silly Serpent) and scream-inducing rides like Pharaoh's Curse for the grown-ups.
