The Viking people are well known for being some of the most fearsome sailors and raiders of early England and Scotland during the years 800-1066 AD, making numerous invasions and causing trouble for the long established ruling classes in these areas.

At 'Vikings: Beyond the Legend', Australians can catch a glimpse of never before seen artefacts - including the oldest known Scandinavian crucifix and Viking swords dated from 700-1100 AD. A total of 500 of these rare items are on display for the first time in this country as part of the exhibit.

Aside from the artefacts, there are also plenty of other highlights to look forward to. Explore a Viking boat yourself with the majestic 8m long replica Krampmacken, or walk around the Jorgen Jorgenson, a faithful reconstruction of the Gokstad Viking ship that was excavated in Norway in 1880.

The Maritime Museum can be found at 2 Murray Street in Darling Harbour, perfect for those staying in nearby holiday accommodation such as Mantra on Kent.
