Melbourne is renowned for its coffee culture and great selection of cafes. But there's more to this capital than meets the eye. If you've just moved to the city, base yourself in some local long-term accommodation that's close to all the action.

Live@Mantra's fabulous Mantra on the Park apartments are in a fantastic location for you to experience all that Melbourne has to offer.

Now, it's time to set out and enjoy your new city. If you're interested in sports, you'll be spoilt for choice for what to do in Melbourne. Act like a local and head down to "The G" (otherwise known as the Melbourne cricket ground) for some of the best cricketing action you can imagine.

If it's not cricket season, there may well be a game of AFL for you to enjoy. Even if you don't know the rules, it's a great chance to soak up the atmosphere and perhaps even meet a few new friends!

For something completely different, check out the Old Melbourne Gaol. The precinct is home to Melbourne's oldest prison, the former Police City Watch House and even the historic Magistrate's Court.

Old Melbourne Gaol has been the heart of law and order in Melbourne since 1840, and Australia's most notorious bushranger Ned Kelly has even spent time within its walls.

For a cultural experience, give the Melbourne Museum a whirl. There are plenty of temporary and permanent exhibitions to delight visitors of all ages, including a dinosaur walk, historical facts and an interactive water display.

When it's time to eat, take a walk over to Lygon Street to experience some of the best Italian cuisine in Melbourne. Hot spots include Brunetti's and Il Gambero, where you'll get decadent pizza and pasta dishes to make your mouth water.
