Where to go on the Gold Coast for a weekend getaway

The Gold Coast: a great destination for a weekend getaway. Where to go on the Gold Coast for a weekend getaway?

Fancy leaving the hustle and bustle of the city for a couple of days and soaking up some sunshine in the Gold Coast?

This family holiday destination has plenty to offer. From theme parks and water playgrounds to surf beaches and trendy restaurants, it is the perfect location for a weekend getaway.

The only tricky part is deciding where exactly you want to set up camp! Will it be Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach or Coolangatta?

Here is some more information about each area to help you make your decision.

Surfers Paradise

As the name suggests, Surfers Paradise is all about sun, salt and surf! It's also the heart of the Gold Coast, where you will find large theme parks, big hotels and lots of people.

It's a popular destination for families because of the theme parks. There's no better way to entertain the kids than with a day trip to Dreamworld or an afternoon at Wet'n'Wild!

Surfers also offers a range of activities for adrenaline-seeking families. Whether you want to take a diving class or hire bikes, there is something for everyone.

Another highlight of Surfers Paradise is shopping. The Circle on Cavill shopping centre is hugely popular and for good reason - you can snap yourself up a bargain, browse boutique stores, and snack at San Churro for the best Spanish chocolate in town.

To stay close to the action, why not book yourself a room in the aptly named hotel, Mantra Circle on Cavill?

The lively streets of Surfers Paradise will be right at your doorstep, whether you're in the mood for a little shopping, surfing or restaurant-hopping!

If you've only got a weekend in Surfers, then it makes sense to stay close to all of the action.

"It's a great spot to visit all year round, especially if you want to escape your normal routine and enjoy a few quiet days at the beach.

Broadbeach

While Surfers Paradise is known as the heart of the Gold Coast, Broadbeach is more like its trendy cousin.

While not quite as busy or as populated as Surfers, it still has a feel of its own - you will love the upbeat, sophisticated environment.

Make sure that trying out some of the local restaurants is at the top of your to-do list. The people in Broadbeach know how to eat!

Indulge at Max Brenner, sample the selection of beers at Bavarian Bier Cafe, or choose from plenty of nice cafes to grab Sunday brunch.

With two Mantra hotels in Broadbeach, it's easy to stay right in the centre of all the action.

Book yourself a room at Mantra Sierra Grand or Mantra Broadbeach on the Park to be a hop, skip and a jump away from restaurants and shopping centres.

Coolangatta

Last but not least, Coolangatta is another great holiday destination on the Gold Coast. Located further south than Broadbeach and Surfers, it is a lot smaller than its neighbours.

With a population of just under 5,000, if you come here you can expect a relaxed yet welcoming environment.

Mantra Coolangatta Beach is located right on the water and overlooks some of the area's most popular surf areas including the beaches of Kirra, Greenmount and Rainbow Bay.

It's a great spot to visit all year round, especially if you want to escape your normal routine and enjoy a few quiet days at the beach.

Like Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise, this part of the Gold Coast also has some delicious cafes and restaurants.

A beautiful beach and some lovely places to eat: what more could you want?
