The Kuku Yalanji were hunters and gatherers in the past, with more than five groups exploring across the terrain of Port Douglas as the seasons changed throughout the year, living from the rivers, beaches, reefs and sea.

Today, there are around 1,000 Kuku Yalanji people in the area and they play a very active role in Port Douglas' tourism industry, offering visitors a unique insight into their cultural heritage.

There are a variety of tours and walks available such as the Dreamtime Gorge Walk and the Dreamtime Legend Walk, which kick off daily from the Mossman Gorge Centre - close to Mantra on the Inlet, one of Mantra's resorts in Port Douglas.

With these tours, your family will enjoy stories of the Kuku Yalanji culture and experience a traditional smoking ceremony, ochre face painting, rainforest bush food and more.
