If you're up for something a bit more out of the ordinary, why not try scuba diving?
This activity is great for anyone who loves to keep active while on holiday, as it lets you get right up close to all of the underwater scenery - you're likely to see some beautiful wildlife swimming past as you make your dive!
Here are a few things to keep in mind if you're planning a scuba dive for your next holiday in Port Douglas.
How it works
Scuba diving involves using a specialised scuba set to help you breathe underwater - this usually consists of either an open circuit scuba set (where the diver breathes in from the equipment and the gas is exhaled into the surrounding water) or a closed/semi-closed circuit set or rebreather.
With a rebreather, divers breathe in from the set and then back into it, and the exhaled gas is processed within the diving cylinder to make it fit to breathe again.
You'll usually be equipped with diving cylinders, a regulator mechanism to help you control gas flow and pressure, a mouthpiece, full-face mask or helmet, as well as a harness to help you carry the whole set while you're underwater.
