The name Eisteddfod might be something of a tongue twister for most people, but for anyone involved in music it represents a spectacular celebration of all things musical and dramatic.

This year's event is already in full swing, running from August 8 until September 16 in the beautiful Gold Coast.

Now held every year, the Gold Coast Eisteddfod is part of the heritage of the area as it was one of the events held as part of the first ever Gold Coast festival, Tropicarnival, in 1982.

It's the place to be for players and lovers of bands, orchestras and instrumental groups that specialise in string, bass and wind instruments. It's where those involved in pianoforte, choirs and vocal groups, speech and drama and speech choirs get together in an annual event to learn and show everyone their best work. It's a place for dance, and a place for children and young adults with special needs to grow their confidence and meet new people.

"Eisteddfod on the Gold Coast is one of the biggest musical and theatrical events of the year.

During the last two decades, Eisteddfod has grown from an event with just 600 entrants into one that features over 60,000 skilled musicians and dramatists every year - and that number is only growing.

Whether you head along to see someone you know, show your children what can be achieved through the art of music, or to simply enjoy the performances yourself, you won't be disappointed.

A mixture of seasoned professionals and first timers take to the stage every year, making it one of the most diverse get togethers of its kind in the country.

All of this makes for an aural demonstration not to be missed. Once you've booked your Gold Coast accommodation, you can have a look at all the great shows on throughout the event, as well as anything else you'd like to see in the area!
