The pitfalls of staying with family and friends

Fair favourites are on show at this year's Ekka, along with a host of new favourites! The pitfalls of staying with family and friends

Staying with family or friends on holiday may be good for your savings account - but is it good for your sanity?

Sharing close quarters with another family can be challenging, especially if you like your own space and have young children.

When you go on holiday, you want to be able to relax and feel comfortable, not be worried about your kids making a mess or wondering whether you should offer to do the cooking!

If you value your independence, then you may be better off staying in an apartment, hotel or resort.

While this may be more expensive than sleeping on a couch at your Aunt's house, you can't put a price on freedom!

By choosing your own accommodation you will be able to plan your family holiday the way you want it, without feeling as though you have to work around someone else's schedule.

Your kids will cherish having their own space to play. If they are young, then staying in your own place will also give you the chance to keep up their normal routine, such as baths and bedtime stories.

Mantra has apartments, hotels and resorts in most family holiday destinations around Australia, from the sunny Gold Coast to the beautiful Tropical North Queensland.

Escape to trendy Broadbeach or spend the week relaxing in Port Douglas.

Holidays are all about picking a destination that takes your fancy - not choosing your location based on whether you can stay with family or friends!

If you want to be near family, then you can always look for accommodation close by and then have the option of picking and choosing how much you see them.

You only get so many holidays per year, so plan your perfect getaway on your own terms and make it one to remember forever!
