Each year the beautiful Currumbin Beach plays host to the awe-inspiring Swell Sculpture Festival. Just a ten minute drive from the Gold Coast settlement of Coolangatta, this is one festival event to include in any holiday to the region.

Round up the kids and pack your cossie for a holiday here during the event's 10 days. From September 12-21 you'll be wowed by the selection of over 50 sculptures ready to grace the beach. Local, national and international artists will feature sculptures in the celebration, which is open all-hours.

Check out the festival during the day, when the kids will love playing on the beach and discovering these diverse and unique works of art. The beautiful natural environment is only enhanced by the addition of these structures that show off the raw artistic talent of their creators.

In addition to this, you won't want to miss strolling past the sculptures at night, when they will be lit up beautifully allowing you to see a whole new side to them. Head to a local cafe, grab some hot chocolate or a coffee and take a stroll to witness these marvels by starlight.

What else is on offer? Guided twilight walks, artist talks, master classes and children's workshops, for starters. Head along to the Hub, which is open between 9am and 5pm and is located along the beach's walkway. Here, you can get information on all the sculptures and book in to certain events.

Be sure to vote on which sculpture you think should win the ultimate prize, and go into the draw to win an annual double movie pass at The Arts Centre Gold Coast Cinema. If kids vote, they will go into the draw to win a family pass to a show at The Arts Centre Gold Coast.

When you're in town, don't miss the chance to visit the Swell Smalls Gallery, which is an exhibition of smaller pieces by the artists you'll see displaying their works on the main beach. The gallery is right opposite the Hub along Currumbin Beach, and is open from September 7 until 22, from 9am until 4pm. This will give you the chance to view smaller-scale delights in a more intimate setting.
