Getting away for a Queensland family holiday is an exciting adventure that everyone should consider.

If you're unfamiliar with the region or simply want to see a break-down of the best transportation options, here's our list of choices for getting to where you're going - so you can get it sorted and get excited about your holiday!

Most Mantra hotels, resorts and holiday apartments are central and easy to get to, so once you arrive at your destination, you will likely not have far to go.

Leaving on a jet plane

Queensland has two international airports and dozens of smaller ones, so no matter where you're headed, it's likely you'll be able to get there by plane.

If you don't want to think about this part of your holiday, you could always employ the services of a travel agent. They come with expertise and knowledge about the cheapest deals and best services, and can make things like travel insurance and ticket booking a hassle-free experience. However hiring a professional will come at a cost, so be sure to weigh up your options before making a commitment.

If you want to hunt down a bargain for yourself in air travel, there are plenty of websites that will help you do this. Companies like Webjet or Cheapflights will use your preferred travel dates and destination to compare prices and services from multiple different flight companies. This can be a great way to save money when booking your trip.

Take a train

Going by train might seem a little old fashioned, but the novelty factor of going by rail can make the journey part of your holiday seem like an adventure in itself.

The largest and most comprehensive train network in Queensland is the Queensland Rail Holiday Service.

They offer trips up and down the coast of Queensland, as well as multiple services that run inland too. The 'Tilt Train' is a popular journey, as it ventures from Cairns to Brisbane and back, stopping off at multiple destinations along the way.

Bus services

Going by bus is an affordable option for everyone, and it can take you just about anywhere in the country.

The main bus company is Greyhound, which will let you book one off return trips, and has options for travel passes if you are taking a longer trip and need to get between different places on different days.

Once you make it to your destination, local city buses will get you where you need to go.

Drive there

Of course, there's always the option of driving there yourself!

If you don't have your own personal car, or it isn't big enough to fit the family or your group of friends, you can always look at hiring a car from Thrifty.

The benefit of driving yourself means that you won't have to be anywhere on time to make sure you don't miss the connection, you can stop for ice creams and coffees whenever you like, you can relax into your own space, and you can drive yourself from door to door. Just don't forget the map!
