Hobart sure knows how to put on a show during winter, and there's no better example of this than the Festival of Voices.

Make your way to Tasmania's capital city between July 4 and 13 for the festival's 10th year in operation, bringing together a star-studded array of wonderful concerts featuring both national and international acts.

What is the Festival of Voices?

The musical extravaganza known as the Festival of Voices is where a huge variety of musical genres are celebrated and thousands of singers, musicians and audience members come together to celebrate, sing and socialise.

One of the highlights of the festival is undoubtedly the Bonfire and Big Sing, taking place on Friday July 11. Be there before 6 p.m. to catch the action, which involves a surreal candlelit procession down Salamanca Place where a roaring fire is lit to keep your cockles warm the night through!

Once the bonfire has been lit, some extremely talented singers and choristers will take the stage to lead the crowds in a big sing - so practice your singing voices because this is sure to be an incredibly fun event, full of community spirit. This is a family-friendly event, so feel free to bring the kids along, and remember to rug up nice and warm.

What else can you expect during the event? Concerts galore, with a number of acclaimed artists including singer songwriter Ben Lee, soprano Ali McGregor, spiritual and gospel singer from the USA Eric Dozier and cabaret star Amelia Ryan, to name a few.

Then there's the Hobart Chamber Orchestra, contemporary acapella group from the USA the Exchange, and the Spooky Men's Chorale, a homegrown acapella ensemble.

Don't forget the choirs, such as Choristry, City of Auckland Singers, Hobart Harmony, Melbourne Singers of Gospel, Sing Australia and Young Voices of Melbourne a selection of the talent that will be featuring in the festival.

Be sure to attend the Finale Choral Concert on Sunday July 13 at the Federation Concert Hall, where some of the best voices of the event will come together to sing you off, with tunes from Mozart to contemporary rock hits part of the offerings. Remember, there will be plenty of pleasant musical surprises at this event.

Throughout the festival, there will also be workshops, master classes and short courses for singers of every age, so if that sounds like you, don't miss the chance to work with world-class teachers and musicians and meet new musically-included friends. Whether it's choral singing, spoken word, cabaret, poetry or hip hop that's up your alley, there's something at the Festival of Voices to cater to you.
