Get set for the Gold Coast Airport Marathon

Posted By Holly On June 4, 2014

There's plenty to explore in Tweed. Get set for the Gold Coast Airport Marathon

Take your mark, get set and go because the Gold Coast Airport Marathon is about to take place, and you can be a part of the action.

Make your way to the coastal city for the weekend of July 5 and 6 when the race - amongst other fun and exciting events - will take place. This is one of Australia's premier sporting events, so you don't want to miss it.

Be there for the kickoff on Saturday with the Southern Cross University 10km run, which will start bright and early at 6.30 a.m., with prize money of $1,000 for first place up for grabs.

There's also the Suncorp Bank 5.7km Challenge, set to begin at 8:00 a.m. Not to mention the two 'junior dashes' taking place so the young ones can stretch their legs, too.

On Sunday, the Gold Coast Airport Marathon itself takes centre stage. There's plenty of prize money up for grabs - $15,000 for first place, $7,000 for second place, $4,000 for third place and even cash prizes for fourth and fifth. Runners will set off at 7:20 a.m. and push themselves for 42.195km until the finish line.

That's not all, though. Sunday will also feature a 42.195km Wheelchair Marathon and 15km race, plus the ASICS Half Marathon.

Not only are these events fast-paced, exciting and inspirational, they take place amongst the gorgeous scenery of the Gold Coast. Stop by and watch at key points such as Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise. Get to your location early, whether it's the start line, finish line or somewhere in between, to make sure you get a great vantage point.

Remember to secure your holiday accommodation for a pleasant, no-fuss stay in this stunning city.

Mantra Circle on Cavill is a wonderful option, in close proximity to the event and offering one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, some featuring spas and of course, fantastic views of the beach. It's the perfect place to spend your time in the glittering Gold Coast.
