If you love to lace up your jogging shoes and hit the pavement - or like to watch others do it! - you'll want to head to the Ironman event in Cairns this June.

Athletes are set to sweat it out on June 8 in the tropical city and its surrounds. Cairns is a beautiful place for all the action, with its beautiful beaches and forest scenery.

So what can you expect from the Ironman race?

First off, triathletes from across Australia and abroad will take to the water with a 3.8 km swim through the warm sea. Next, they will hop onto their bikes and ride a total of 180 km along the undulating and scenic terrain of the coast, making their way towards Port Douglas. This will be topped off by a 42.2 km run that will finish right in the heart of Cairns.

There will be plenty of onlookers waiting at this site - and others around the course - to support the athletes as they pass by. Why not be one of them yourself?

The race is sure to be exciting, with qualifying spots for the 2014 Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, up for grabs. Witness the elation as winners stride across the finish line and as others push the boundaries to achieve their goals.
