Research before you move

Thanks to the internet, it's easier than ever before to find out about where you're moving to. Search for your destination online to find out the basics, then get more specific where to find the best value meal, check out local cafe and restaurant reviews.

Other searches you might want to make include the best bars and nightlife spots, or any local sports clubs or interest groups you may want to partake in.

When you next have time, head to a different part of town to explore and then another and so on, until you have a good handle on your surroundings.

Ask around

Do you have any friends or family members who have visited or lived in your new home before?

If so, they're sure to have plenty of advice and opinions to share with you. Whether it's how to get to the bus and train routes from your long term accommodation, or where to find the best sushi, their knowledge can be invaluable to you.

Within no time at all, you'll be the one giving out advice on your new city.
