If you're planning a trip to Cairns, you'll want to spend plenty of time getting acquainted with the local area.

It couldn't be easier to get around this tropical centre, and you'll find many attractions are just a hop, skip and a jump away from holiday accommodation like Mantra Trilogy which is placed in the heart of Cairns.

Hop on the bus

If this is your first time to Cairns, you'll want to check out Sunbus, which offer regular services in and around the city.

Bus travel is easy and affordable and you won't need to worry about finding a parking space! You can find travel schedules at the centrally-located Lake Street Transit Centre, where most routes depart.

From here, it is a quick journey to Edge Hill, Flecker Botanic Gardens and many of the famous local beaches, including the Northern Beaches. Positioned just 20 minutes drive from Cairns, Trinity Beach is a great place to cool off during the summer months as it offers a safe swimming zone, set with swaying palm trees and calm waters.

Explore on two wheels - or two feet!

Riding a bike is a great way to go exploring, especially in a city like Cairns that has lots of paths and is easy to get around. You can hire bikes for as little as $12 a day from a number of local providers, including Cairns Bicycle Hire on Shields Street, which also offers a selection of scooters.

Alternatively, Bike Man and Bandicoot Bicycles are both located on Sheridan Street and offer bikes on a per-day or per-week basis.

The Cairns Walking and Cycling Circuit takes in a number of key landmarks, including the Cairns Botanic Gardens, the Esplanade lagoon, Cairns Central Swamp and a number of the city's key waterways. Hiking trails are also found throughout Cairns Central Swamp and Cairns Regional Council offers a number of detailed maps you can check out prior to your visit to help you plan your trip.
