Celebrate New Year's Eve in Melbourne with a spectacular fireworks display. Ring in the new year in Melbourne

The city of Melbourne will be putting on New Year's Eve celebrations this year unlike any other, so you've got to get down to the Victorian capital to take it all in.

If you're travelling to the big city this silly season or you're a resident wondering what to do in Melbourne as the clock counts down, you can't go past the fireworks and entertainment hosted throughout the city.

Early evening

If you've got children in tow or are just looking for celebrations that commence earlier rather than later, head down to Yarra Park at 6:00pm for all the excitement of a traditional New Year's Eve extravaganza without the late curfew.

Bring the whole family down for two main stages of free entertainment, plus plenty of games and activities for kids to enjoy. Them Swoops, Sol Nation and The Cactus Channel will keep crowds entertained all night. There'll be a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30pm to cap off the evening.

Later on

There are several spots you can head to, to enjoy the midnight fireworks in Melbourne. The Treasury Gardens, Kings Domain, Flagstaff Gardens and Docklands are all perfectly set up to ring in the new year with friends, family and jovial strangers.

These official "live sites" will feature free music from some of Melbourne's best DJs, along with a multimedia centre full of music, visuals and breathtaking pyrotechnic effects.

Plan ahead

Start by booking in some holiday accommodation close to the action. Mantra 100 Exhibition Street is perfectly located right in the heart of the city so you can simply walk outside your door and be in the heart of the action.

You can also check out public transport on the night to get you safely and easily to where you want to go.
