Experience the culture of Chinatown in Melbourne. Have a cultural experience in Melbourne's Chinatown

No visit to Melbourne is complete without a trip to Chinatown - just ask any local or tourist.

The area runs along Little Bourke Street and dates back to the 1850s gold rush days. It's the longest continuous Chinese settlement in the western world, but it's anything but out of date.

If you're heading off on a weekend getaway and are thinking about what to do in Melbourne, make sure you set some time aside to explore the plethora of dining, shopping and cultural experiences tucked away in Chinatown.

If exotic food is your thing, you can't go past the many ethnic restaurants dotted along the alleys and lanes of Chinatown. There are plenty of Chinese delicacies available, but if you're feeling a little adventurous you could try German food and bier at Hofbrauhaus. Alternatively, Indian cuisine-lovers should check out Gaylord for authentic aromatic dishes.

For those who have their hearts set on Chinese dining, the world is your oyster. There are enough yum cha and dumpling houses to poke a stick at in Chinatown, and fine dining is covered at the ever-popular Cantonese restaurant Flower Drum.

Once you've stuffed yourself silly on the delicacies, you might want to take some time to relax and recharge your batteries. The Regent Club Spa is a new development in the heart of Melbourne which offers luxury spa treatments, including massage rooms and VIP suites. It's even got a concept lounge with a selection of fine wines and cigars for the ultimate pampering experience.

After your hard day of eating, relaxing and shopping, head back to Mantra on Little Bourke. Just a stone's throw from the heart of Chinatown, this holiday accommodation is perfectly located for you to enjoy all that Melbourne has to offer.
