How to stay healthy on holiday (while having fun as well)

There are plenty of great ways to stay fit and healthy on holiday. How to stay healthy on holiday (while having fun as well)

Staying healthy while on holiday can be difficult sometimes. After all, you are on holiday to relax, unwind and forget about the usual stresses of life - not to be worrying about diet and exercise!

There's nothing wrong with letting loose and having some fun every now and then, but don't think that you need to throw away your healthy habits just because you are away from home.

Here are a few creative and fun ways to stay healthy while on vacation, which will ensure that you are looking and feeling great during your Queensland family holiday.

Make exercising fun!

Whether you are on holiday or at home, it's important to remember that the key to making exercise a regular habit is ensuring that it is fun and enjoyable.

Just because you don't have access to your usual gym or sports team doesn't mean that you need to turn into a couch potato. While on holiday, why not challenge yourself to a few exciting activities that will get your heart racing and your blood pumping?

You could lace up your running shoes and go for a nice morning jog along one of Queensland's many beautiful beaches. The sea air and crisp sunshine will have you feeling great and ready to enjoy the day.

Of course you don't need to push yourself too hard - you're on holiday after all. If running sounds a bit too strenuous, why not simply grab the family and take a nice stroll?

If you are staying in beautiful Tropical North Queensland you could take a walk through the world famous Cairns Tropical Zoo and marvel at the fantastic wildlife on display - the choice is yours!

"Instead of heading out to a fast food joint, or spending the night at a fancy restaurant, you could cook yourself up some tasty fresh Queensland seafood that is both healthy and delicious."

Don't be afraid to dine in

Sometimes when we go away on holiday we can fall into the trap of dining out every night, and while there's nothing necessarily wrong with this, there are plenty of benefits in choosing to cook your own meals as well.

The great part about staying in a holiday apartment is that there will be a fully equipped kitchen available in which you can test out your cooking skills and get creative.

Instead of heading out to a fast food joint, or spending the night at a fancy restaurant, you could cook yourself up some tasty fresh Queensland seafood that is both healthy and delicious.

With a side of steamed greens or a tossed salad, seafood will really shine on the plate.

Not only will this have you feeling great, it will also teach your children about the importance of healthy eating as well.

And if you have any leftovers, you can wrap them up and save them for lunch on tomorrow's adventure!

There's nothing wrong with getting some rest

For some people, a holiday is all about lazing about in the sunshine and getting plenty of R&R. For others however, it is a time for adventure and excitement!

Both of those approaches are perfectly fine - after all, it's your holiday! - but don't fall into the trap of thinking that you need to constantly be up and about.

With work, family and friends, many of us struggle to get the right amount of sleep in our day to day lives. Why not make up for that by relaxing and getting a full eight (or more) hours while on holiday?

You don't need to sleep the day away, but at the same time don't feel guilty about getting an early night every now and then or sleeping in for an extra hour or two.

That way, you will be feeling totally refreshed and will have more energy to explore Queensland with full enthusiasm and energy!
