If you really want to celebrate spring in style, you have to be at the Melbourne Cup in 2013 to catch all of the action - not to mention the fashion!

The Melbourne Cup is part of the Victoria Racing Club's annual four-day Cup Carnival and is one of the biggest events in Melbourne held every year. Visitors from all around the world flood into the Victorian capital just for this event, so make sure to start planning early if you want to be there too.

There is a variety of accommodation in Melbourne to consider, from the centrally located Mantra on Little Bourke and Mantra on Russell to Mantra Southbank in the heart of the city's arts and entertainment precinct.

"While the races themselves are undoubtedly one of the most exciting parts of the carnival, there's also a lively party atmosphere and eye-catching fashion to enjoy as well.

All about the Melbourne Cup

The 2013 Melbourne Cup Carnival comprises four days of racing excitement, with the AAMI Victoria Derby Day taking place on November 2 followed by the Emirates Melbourne Cup Day on November 5, the Crown Oaks Day on November 7 and the Emirates Stakes Day on November 9.

All eyes are on Melbourne during the cup, with plenty of action happening both on and off the racetrack. While the races themselves are undoubtedly one of the most exciting parts of the carnival, there's also a lively party atmosphere and eye-catching fashion to enjoy as well.

The Melbourne Cup Carnival is the place to show off your daring fascinators, hats and spring style, with attendees decked out in their best for the occasion and the Fashions on the Field competition scoping out the best in women's race-wear.

Sixties 'it girl' Jean Shrimpton caused a stir when she made an appearance in 1965, and since then the event has continued to attract celebrities, royalty and fashion icons from all over the world.

As the richest handicap race in Australia, the Melbourne Cup attracts some of the best in the racing world with the irresistible lure of sporting glory, gleaming trophies and plenty of prize money.
