How are you planning to spend your October long weekend? If you really want to make the most of it, a quick getaway to Brisbane is the perfect way to take advantage of the break.

With plenty of things to see and do in the Queensland capital, you'll find plenty of entertainment options and great holiday accommodation in the area.

Mantra on Queen is perfect for those looking for a city break as it's right in the CBD, with great views looking out over the Brisbane River and within close distance of fashion boutiques and the Queens Plaza/Queen Street shopping areas.

If you're planning to be in Brisbane during the long weekend in October, here are a few things you'll want to check out.

Weekend markets

Brisbane is home to a wide variety of markets throughout the year, so a lazy long weekend is the perfect opportunity to find a few treasures of your own at the stalls.

The Valley Markets at the Brunswick Street Mall are always worth a visit, and the South Bank Lifestyle Market has many weird and wonderful arts and crafts to peruse. Or, to make the most of the sunshine, you might want to take a stroll through the Riverside Markets at the Pier.

Lush scenery and parks

If you're wondering what to do in Brisbane, the South Bank Parklands are also a must-see while you're in the city.

See a whole new view from the thrilling Wheel of Brisbane, wander at your leisure through the picturesque flower-filled Arbour, or marvel at the Nepalese Pagoda (one of only three peace pagodas outside of Nepal).

There's also a fun water park for the kids to enjoy and the Maritime Museum to visit if you're after a bit of heritage and history.

Catch some events

There are plenty of events in Brisbane to see during the long weekend. The Queensland Museum & Science Centre will be hosting a new international exhibition showcasing hidden treasures from Afghanistan.

From October 2-6, Cirque Du Soleil will be taking over the Brisbane Entertainment Centre with the Michael Jackson The Immortal World Tour, and there are many other events to catch as well!
