Enjoy a day trip to picturesque Healesville. Get to know Melbourne: Take a day trip to Healesville

If you've recently moved to Melbourne, one of the best ways to get to know your new city and find your way around is to explore your surroundings.

The Melbourne CBD offers plenty of things to do. If you're going to be living in Melbourne for a while, the long term accommodation program Live@Mantra offers plenty of advantages, with a central location and personalised service to help you feel at home.

However, there's more to Melbourne than just the inner city - why not get out and about and explore destinations a little further afield?

Healesville is a simple day trip away from the city, located just 65km from the CBD and it has plenty of attractions to tempt the casual traveller.

What to do in Healesville

Healesville is found in the picturesque Yarra Valley region of Melbourne, east of Yarra Glen.

The nearby Woods Point goldfields helped usher in an economic boom for the town, and when the railway linked it to Melbourne in 1889 Healesville became one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region - and that continues to this day.

Today, Healesville is nestled in between majestic mountains, sprawling lush forests and verdant hills that are home to several wineries and orchards making the best of the local produce in the area.

Indulge your taste for great food and wine with a guided tour of the wineries and breweries in the area, with plenty of options to choose from.

If you fancy getting a closer look at some of the gorgeous natural scenery in Healesville, there are quite a few helicopter or ballooning tours that will give you a unique view of the whole Yarra Valley.

Or, you can head out to the Maroondah Reservoir north-east of Healesville for a closer view of the surrounding mountains.
