The Brisbane Story Bridge is an iconic landmark. Enjoy the view from Brisbane's Story Bridge

Wondering what to do on your Brisbane family holiday? It can be difficult finding activities that the whole family can enjoy, but the iconic Brisbane Story Bridge is definitely a sure bet!

Located just a short distance away from Mantra on Queen, one of Mantra's hotels in Brisbane, the Story Bridge is Australia's longest cantilever bridge and one of the city's most recognisable landmarks.

With the Story Bridge Adventure Climb, you can get a whole new view of the city, the river and the surrounding countryside, so it's well worth booking ahead for this unique Brisbane experience.

The Story Bridge

The Story Bridge is comprised of steel cantilevers and spans the Brisbane River, carrying traffic between the northern and southern suburbs of the city.

It first opened for operation in 1940 and took a total of five years to build, providing much-needed employment for many Australians during the time of the Great Depression.

Located just a short distance away from Mantra on Queen, one of Mantra's hotels in Brisbane, the Story Bridge is Australia's longest cantilever bridge and one of the city's most recognisable landmarks.

It is the largest steel bridge designed, fabricated and constructed by Australians in the country, with Queenslander Dr John Bradfield working as the consulting engineer.

The Story Bridge measures 1,072 metres long from the northern to southern anchor piers and the summit is 74 metres to the ground - comparable to that of a 22-story building.

Climbing the bridge

To climb the Story Bridge, you'll need to leave all of your valuables and personal items behind and you'll be provided with all of the safety equipment you need by the team at the Story Bridge Adventure Climb.

You'll be attached to the bridge at all times during the climb, so it's a safe and fun adventure which can be done by anyone over the age of ten.

Your walk will start underneath the bridge on a suspended walkway, before going through road level and onto the anchor arm on the bridge's eastern side.

From there, it's a relatively easy walk to the summit of the bridge for a spectacular view before descending back down on the other side.
