Sweat it out at the Coolangatta Gold

Posted By Holly On September 12, 2013

The gruelling Coolangatta Gold race is back for 2013. Sweat it out at the Coolangatta Gold

One of Australia's most well-known multi-discipline races, the Coolangatta Gold is a true test of an athlete's endurance, strength and performance.

If you want to follow the competitors and catch all the action live, there's nothing like being right up close on the sand. Mantra has more than a few choices for holiday accommodation on the Gold Coast, but you can't beat Mantra Coolangatta Beach for convenience and location.

Here's a small guide to what you can expect at the 2013 Coolangatta Gold.

Going for the gold

The Schick Hydro Coolangatta Gold takes place on October 20, where spectators and supporters can cheer on the competitors tackling the 46km endurance test.

"One of Australia's most well-known multi-discipline races, the Coolangatta Gold is a true test of an athlete's endurance, strength and performance.

A variety of disciplines and talents will be tested during the race, which involves an ocean swim, a surf-ski portion, board paddle and run. This is also the longest race of its kind in the entire world, so athletes have to be sure they're in prime condition to withstand the challenging conditions.

Everyone from 'masters' to those aged under 19 years can participate, and there's sure to be plenty of team spirit on the day as athletes work together to complete the race.

The event is organised by Surf Life Saving Australia, the country's leading non-profit volunteer organisation for water safety, drowning prevention and rescue. Other supporters include Tourism and Events Queensland, NutriGrain, Westpac Bank and many more.

Look out for the Great Gold Coast Swim, the 5km Beach Fun Run and the Endurance Race. There's also some great activities planned for a Family Fun Day this year, so you can bring your kids along to join in all the excitement.

Competitors come from all over the world to test their skills on the course, which will take them through Surfers Paradise, Currumbin, Bilinga, Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta.
