There are a few things to consider before you move. Moving cities checklist: What to do before you move

Moving to a brand new city can be tough, especially when you consider everything that needs to be arranged both before and after you move.

When you move into Live@Mantra, the long-term accommodation option at Mantra, you can take advantage of a variety of helpful features such as discounted internet, competitive rates and personalised service.

These certainly make it easier to call your new city home, but before you move it's important to ensure you've checked a few of these things off your list as well.

Change of address

It's vital to ensure that all those important letters and other documents will still be able to reach you once you've moved cities.

Make sure to notify everyone you need to about your change of address and leave details about where you will next be located, so mail can be forwarded onto you. Plus, there's nothing like receiving your first letter in your new place to make it feel more like home!

Leaving your current job

Whether you're moving to take advantage of a new role within the same company or changing businesses entirely, you need to make sure you've arranged everything at your current place of work before you leave.

You may need to spend some time in the weeks leading up to the move training your replacement, or completing any paperwork and formal processes that need to be organised before you leave the company.

Plan the move

It's simply not feasible to move your whole life with you, so consider what you really need in your new city and what can be left behind or given away.

Make a list of the things you need to pack, how you will transport them (will you do it yourself or hire a moving company?) and what can be downsized to make the move as easy as possible.

It's also a good idea to work out ahead of time where the essential facilities are at your new city, whether that's supermarkets, banks, shopping malls or more.
